Sustainability in Grand Rapids
You may have already read the “Sustainability in Grand Rapids” article recently published on BevyMedia.com. If not, here is a link to it: http://bevymedia.com/ sustainability/
If you have read it and clicked here to read more, thank you. And welcome to the GRBondStreet website. As you can tell, this building is For Sale. We have loved owning this building and working here - but we’re moving on and it is now looking for a new owner. Someone that (hopefully) appreciates it’s historical and architectural value as much as we always have. Below, is a list of just some of the contents of this building and a few quick bullet points about them.
You’ll notice one common theme though, Recycle ... Reuse ... Reduce.
1. Exterior and Interior Original Brick Walls:
- 4 layers thick - that (along with the 12” thick concrete floor) work to create a geothermal effect reducing heating and cooling costs - stabilizing temperature fluctuations
- Sandblasted and restored original brick walls in various locations of building
2. Geo-Location:
- Located on a massive vein of slate bedrock
- Bedrock stabilizes the sub surfaces (of the building) while adding to the geothermal effect
3. 18" Exposed Steel Beams:
- Supports the 4" concrete roof with insulation above and rubberized top surface further adding to the thermal mass
4. Barn-style Sliding Doors:
- Re-use of hardware from industrial storage system for support and slider functions
5. School Door:
- Door rescued from demolition of Richmond Elementary School in GR
- Extensively restored
6. Oxberry Animation Stand:
- Animation stand was used in early animations (much like Disney-used)
- Reused to supply base for conference room glass/metal table
7. Oak Machinery Pallets:
- Recycled from local factories
- Supplied wood for large oak "post and beam"
- Used for construction of glass conference table
8. Hanging Globe Lighting in Large Open Studio Space:
- Recycled from Sligh Furniture Factory in GR
- Re-wired and restored
- Now uses energy saver lighting
9. Vintage Beam Mantle in Conference Room:
- Industrial-sized beam - locally sourced
10. Early Factory Globe/Reflector Lights:
- Re-wired and restored now with energy saver lighting
11. Aspen Exterior Barn Door:
- Rough sawn local sawmill sourced recreations based on historic photography of the building
12. Hard Concrete Floors in Open Studio Space:
- Painstakingly restored original hard flooring - sanding, repairing, painting to restore look of original space
13. Furniture Dolly:
- Saved from demolition - originally used in local Furniture Factories
- All wood and metal repaired and restored
14. Shelving in Conference Room:
- Created from original plumbing pipes and wood barn beam
15. Conference Room Frame:
- Photo taken by local photographer of 6th Street bride (located in same neighborhood as 800 Bond)
- Frame created by acid washing reclaimed metal

Multi-colored brick walls adorn this open room. Making it a unique and trendy focal point for group meetings, office spaces, conference areas or any type of event! These walls could also be opened-up as future large windows - depending on how you would like to lay out the room.
The ceilings downstairs offer a trendy warehouse look.
Also downstairs are various meeting/conference/classroom areas as well as plenty of office space.
This doors greets you upstairs and was lovingly rescued/restored from an
old school (that was being torn down).
old school (that was being torn down).
The large and bright windows upstairs offer light to multiple office/conference room/class/etc spaces. And the space is ended with a historic brick wall, showcasing an original brick arch.
The brick arch is highlighted with perfectly located lighting.
The above table was also restored (it was originally a furniture dolly from
a Grand Rapids furniture factory).

The upstairs is carefully laid-out with businesses in mind. Included are: areas for offices or classrooms as well as open spaces for conferences, brain-storming sessions, etc.
There are also closed areas upstairs for meetings (or more offices).
Throughout the building, you will catch glimpses of architectural history, design history and even Grand Rapids history. Some of the furniture in the building is from early Steelcase days, and some is original-made pieces. The desk above (for example) was created from an antique animation stand.
(Most of the furniture inside the building will be negotiable).
The multitude of options for office/meeting spaces throughout the building is incredible (seen below).
With recent news about streetcars returning to Grand Rapids it's particularly fun for this building as well. As this building originally housed the power source for street cars.
(below are some historic pictures).
